Not Dead Yet
A contemplative landscape short, which ruminates on life post-addiction. Shot in December of 2018 along the Gulf Coast as co-director Aniello de Angelis struggled with substance abuse, and then written in July of 2019 as he was four months sober, the images and story exist in separate spaces & identities. When edited together, it’s a reclaiming of lost time — a way to imbue these hopeless and somber visuals with confidence, understanding & life. De Angelis likens it to a sort of “postcard cinema,” which is to say this combination of uninflected nature photography and on-screen text narration produces a forlorn message service. These messages speak to past and future selves, as they navigate recovery and what it means to be human.
